The University has been functioning in a transparent manner. The Right to Information Act 2005 has been implemented at this University in its Syndicate Meeting dated 27.3.2006 (para 4). Any person can get the information relating to this University subject to the various provisions of this Act. The Registrar of the University has been appointed as the Information Officer under this Act. An officer of the rank of Superintendent has also been appointed in the Office of the Registrar for the assistance of Information Officer to deal with the supply of any kind of information under this Act.
In order that most wanted information relating to the University may reach the General Public easily, the following information/ documents have been put on Internet on the University Websites : www.gndu.ac.in
Apart from that the Syllabi of all the courses, names of the University Departments and the courses being run in these departments, result of various examinations and the Entrance Tests for admission to various courses are given on the Internet.
Any person who desires to obtain any information under this Act shall make a request in writing or through electronic means in Punjabi or English or Hindi. For this purpose he/she will have to deposit application fee of Rs.10/- with the University cash counter or by Indian Postal Order (IPO)/Bank Demand Draft (DD) in favour of Registrar, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar payable at Amritsar. The fee at the following rates shall be charged from the applicant for providing the information demanded by him/her :
No fee for inspection of record shall be charged, if such an inspection is made for one hour only. However, if inspection is made for a period of more than one hour, a fee of rupees five shall be charged for every fifteen minutes in excess thereof. A fraction of the period of fifteen minutes shall be construed as a complete period of fifteen minutes and shall be charged as such.
The information sought by any one will be supplied as per the provisions of RTI Act, 2005.
All citizens posses the right to information
Information can be obtained within 30 days from the date of request in a normal case.
If information is a matter of life or liberty of a person, it can be obtained within 48 hours from time of request.
An appeal against the decision of the Public Information Officer can be made to an officer who is senior in rank.
The following is exempt from disclosure (S. 8)
Only that part of the record which does not contain any information which is exempt from disclosure and which can reasonably be severed from any part that contains exempt information, may be provided. (S.10)
